DMX isn’t wasting any time after serving one year in prison for tax evasion. In a new interview with Real 92.3’s host Big Boy on Tuesday (Jan. 29), X commented on the current state of hip-hop and rap. According to him, the new generation of rappers only appear to promote excessive drug use.
“They’re all promoting drug use,” DMX said. “If that’s what you wanna do, that’s your business, but you ain’t gotta promote it like it’s cool and make it cool.”
The vet also stated that the new generation is misrepresenting the rap genre. When asked whether he felt like it was up to him and other artists of his caliber to save the culture, X replied: “Whoever can, not just myself. But whoever has the ability to, first, the insight to see it and the talent and the ability to, you know, do the right thing. It’s all of our responsibility.”
This is DMX’s first interview following his prison release. Fans hopefully won’t have to wait too long for new music however. New reports claim the rapper was working on a new album while he was locked up. So, maybe we can expect him to drop more knowledge soon.
In the meantime, check out the clip from his interview with Big Boy below.
