Unless you’ve been living your best Patrick Star life underneath a rock, Doja Cat has been the topic of social media conversation. While she is a signed recording artist, her intentional joke of a song and video “Mooo!” has captured the attention of millions.
Due to the viral nature of the video, in which she taps into her inner cow monologues, the song is already on its way to being officially rerecorded for Spotify. She’s even set to head out on her 22-city Amala tour this fall. However, there’s one major snag that threatens to derail the 22-year-old’s momentum.
Yesterday (Aug. 28), Twitter detectives unearthed old tweets of her using homophobic slurs in a message to Tyler, the Creator, and Earl Sweatshirt.

When confronted about the tweet, she laughed it off before unapologetically offering her rationale for using the offensive word in high school and beyond. According to her, she’s used the term “roughly 15 thousand times” in her life, but it doesn’t mean she hates gay people. The latter tweet is no longer on her own Twitter.

Even Will and Grace actress Debra Messing expressed her disappointment in Doja for defending her ignorance.
SERIOUSLY, @DojaCat?! How can you be so ignorant? Do know how many people you are hurting? Use your fame and platform for Good. It’s a privilege. pic.twitter.com/5ZiqI3ZVJw
