Talk about a “check up” from Dr. Dre.
The billionaire music mogul celebrated the holidays with his legal team in a colossal way this year. D-R-E, aka Andre Young, showed yet another display of philanthropy yesterday (Dec. 12) when he gave personal holiday bonuses to all 43 staff members at King, Holmes, Paterno & Berliner, LLP. While higher-ups received larger checks, the hip-hop icon even cut $10K bonuses to staff members who were not directly contracted to his deals. KHPB have been Dr. Dre’s legal counsel almost two decades and most recently negotiated the $3 billion dollar Apple acquisition of Beats By Dre.
Payday was all G on Friday when staff members realized Christmas arrived early, all thanks to Dr. Dre’s generosity. In addition the significant increase, KHPB will also award their standard yearly holiday bonuses to their staff next week.
Could all this giving have something to do with Dre’s newly crowned Forbes title as highest paid musician, knocking Beyoncé (and any musician EVER) out of the top spot with $620 million in earnings in 2014, or are we seeing another layer of the tycoon’s success? In 2013, Dre partnered with Interscope Records co-founder and chairman Jimmy Iovine to give the University of Southern California $75 million dollars to fund the USC Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy for Arts, Technology and the Business of Innovation.
Dre will look to continue his winning in 2015 with the release of the NWA biopic, Straight Outta Compton, scheduled for release next summer.
