A judge dismissed Dr. Dre and Ice Cube from a wrongful death lawsuit, in which Terry Carter was a victim of a hit an run accident. A judge determined that the NWA members were not liable for any recklessness that may have led to Carter’s death.
In 2015, Terry Carter died after sustaining injuries from a hit and run accident during a promotional shoot for the Straight Outta Compton biopic. At the time, Suge Knight was accused of running over Carter while attempting to flee the scene, according to TMZ. Knight was later charged with premeditated murder. Carter’s family filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Knight and the NWA members, insisting they played a part in Carter’s death after allegedly hiring known gang members as security for the promo shoot. However, a judge wasn’t buying the allegations.
Ice Cube and Dr. Dre filed a motion back in August of 2015 to be removed from the lawsuit. “These allegations plainly demonstrate that allowing Suge to remain at the base camp posed a serious risk that Suge could have injured someone at the camp—including Dr. Dre, Bone (Cle “Bone” Slone) or one of the numerous cast and crew working on the film,” their official motion to dismiss stated. “Certainly, the risk that Suge might leave the base camp and proceed to his fatal confrontation with Carter was no more foreseeable than the possibility that Suge would injure or kill someone else if he had been permitted to stay.”
While Cube and Dre are off the hook, Suge Knight still remains on the lawsuit. A court date has not been scheduled for him as of yet.
