When you have the key to the city, you can do what you want, or at least Drake can. During All-Star Weekend, Drake coached the Toronto team, faced off against Reggie Miller at ping pong, chopped it up with NBA’s A-list players, and even spit some of the bars from “Back to Back,” accompanied with some beatboxing from Shaquille O’Neal.
On Valentine’s Day, the Views rapper joined TNT‘s Inside the NBA to talk about his love for his hometown and its players getting the exposure they deserve. “We have people in this city that are so proud to be from here, that are always supporting and they deserve this tonight. Yesterday was one of the most legendary dunk competitions I think I’ve ever seen in my life. And tonight I think these guys are going to put on a show for a city that’s deserving,” the OVO rapper said.
Midway through the talk, Drizzy was asked to join Shaq, Reggie Miller, Kenny Anderson, Charles Barkley and Ernie Johnson for their tradition of rapping while Shaq beatboxes. Right away, Shaq burst into a beat, saying “Oh man, oh man.” Drake happily jumped in, and was even about to freestyle over Shaq’s beat, until he asked for the original. Drake then went on to spit a couple of bars from his Grammy-nominated diss song, “Back to Back.”
It’s kind of clear who these guys will be rooting for to win for Best Rap Performance. Check out the video of Drake rapping with Shaq below.
