Drake brought out bounce music staple Big Freedia during the NOLA stop on the Aubrey and The Three Migos tour Monday night (Sept. 25).
Freedia, whose voice can be heard in Drake’s hit “Nice For What,” reportedly wore pink jeans, a multicolored jacket and a rainbow wig. She performed the aforementioned track as well as a few lines from “Gin In My System.” Elsewhere during the show, the Toronto musician was joined by Yung Miami of City Girls to perform “In My Feelings,” rapper 5th Ward Weebie and New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara.
Freedia’s recognizable vocals can be heard not only on the Scorpion track, but in the music video for Beyonce’s 2016 song “Formation.” Despite being on many songs with big names, Freedia is often absent in the music videos accompanying the hits she’s featured on. She reportedly contacted Drake and asked if she could be in the video for “In My Feelings.”
“The credits are important but, for me, it’s still putting New Orleans on the map and I’m happy with the check,” she told The FADER in an interview regarding not being featured in the videos. “I’ve worked tremendously hard to make things happen for New Orleans culture. I just want us to get the proper recognition and the proper credit that we deserve.”
