Drake may be making headlines–not at an arena–but a college campus near you.
“I fought for this tour, I fought really hard for this tour because, of course, they want me to go get the big bucks, go into the stadiums and cash out,” Drake said. “But I was just like, ‘I really made this album for the same people that supported me from day one.'”
Drizzy, whose highly anticipated album Take Care is due on November 15, reminisced on his first college show at Southern Illinois University in 2009 and stressed that he made it a point to see certain colleges like SIU when he heads out on tour. He also plans to bring rap newcomers A$AP Rocky and Kendrick Lamar as opening acts on his college tour, who have sung praises for the Young Money star.
“He’s in the position where if he cosigns somebody, it’s valid, it’s a good look,” A$AP Rocky told MTV. “He’s got good taste. Therefore when he comes and listens to people like me and gets inspired and then wanna take us out on tour, that shows he’s a real dude.”
Although no specifics have been revealed, Drake says the tour will be a 2-month stint beginning in January and “an incredible stage show that people should see before I retire.”
“Not to disclose too much, but I know what people bring to colleges,” the newly-turned 25-year-old said. “I know that they usually try to scale it down when they go to college venues, but I’ll probably do the opposite.” Oh these college students know…they know, they know. –Adelle Platon
