The road to platinum status is filled with Hip-Hop acts this year. It’s no surprise that Drake’s Views is leading the pack. News of his double-platinum feat was released by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) on Tuesday (June 14), confirming his reign will not let up.
The rapper previously celebrated the presence of “One Dance” on the Hot 100 chart for the fifth week in a row, and the album at six weeks on the Billboard 200.
With the growing release of projects and singles from the game’s most elite and elusive acts in the end, the demand has been met with satisfying results. J.Cole topped off the year with a platinum album plaque for his critically darling, 2014 Forest Hills Drive. Other rappers have also followed suit like Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp A Butterfly and Big Sean’s Dark Sky Paradise.

Since the confirmation of RIAA’s plan to include album streams while tracking albums, more artists have benefited in the form of platinum albums and singles. While some of the singles and albums are a few years old, it shows listeners are still buying music.
