Drake’s fourth studio album just defeated If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late (535,000) and What A Time To Be Alive (375,000) in first week sales. During a listening party for VIEWS in his hometown Friday night (Apr. 29), the Toronto native shared that his soundscape has officially gone gold, selling an estimate of 630,000 copies on the project’s release date.
To the packed venue, Drizzy shared, “I got a text message that we’ve sold like 630,000 records in one night. That’s the first time I’ve ever done that sh*t, so thank you very much.”
While the “Controlla” rapper is poised to make history with this album, he’s looking to create magic in the studio again with fellow artist Kanye West. During an interview with Zane Lowe, he revealed that he’s planning to head back into the lab with Yeezy.
“We have a few things that we’ve worked on. It’s all about finding a place for it. ‘Ye is one of my favorite people in the world … I hope we get some more music out,” he said. “We were supposed to do a mixtape, album together.”
Either way, fans have expressed their satisfaction with Drake’s 20-track album. The project includes production credits from longtime collaborator Noah “40” Shebib, Nineteen85, Boi-1da, DJ Dahi, Metro Boomin and more.
