Earl Sweatshirt has a few thoughts about Drake. Last week, Internet conversation arose about the similarities between Drake’s “Hotline Bling” and D.R.A.M.’s “Cha Cha.” The Virginia singer-rapper hybrid took to Twitter to address the comparisons of his track to Drizzy’s latest hit. Remarking that he felt he got “jacked” for his record, D.R.A.M. sparked a new debate. Now, Earl has taken the stance that Drake is “a bit of a vulture on young rap n***as.”
The Odd Future rapper’s comments stemmed from an Instagram video Drake posted recently, dancing to Kodak Black’s “SKRT.” Responding to chatter that Drake allegedly discovered Kodak Black, Earl Sweatshirt launched a set of tweets about the OVO head honcho. Writing that Drake’s pulling from younger artists is “always self serving,” Earl also made a stark observation about the lines between paying homage and “wave riding.”
“Just like the line between paying homage and wave riding is blurry so is the one between giving criticism and hating,” he wrote. Recognizing the attention his tweets would receive, Earl also stated that “Rap music is bored as a collective if every time I have an opinion about something an article gets written.”
