Last Friday (April 14) was a big day for music and entertainment buffs. Fate of the Furious, the eighth installment of Universal’s Fast and the Furious franchise, officially hit theaters (and to much box office fanfare). Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN. album took the words out of the mouths of fans and critics alike when it hit the ‘Net. And ELHAE, a rising singer and rapper from Georgia, celebrated the anticipated release of his AURA II EP.
A crowd of fans cozied up in the back of New York’s Williamsburg Apple store the night before to get a sneak peak of the project hours before it officially hit iTunes, Spotify, Apple Music, SoundCloud Go and the like. The 10-track project is a continuation of sorts to his 2015 AURA EP.
With features from Ty Dolla $ign, Rockie Fresh and Eric Bellinger, AURA II gives the unfamiliar just enough to latch onto without taking the spotlight away from the focus of his day ones: ELHAE’s R&B rooted vocals. On the project, the heart is an emotional plaything, embarking on a journey of love, lust, longing and those situationships in-between.
At the listening session, the Atlantic Records signee started off the evening playing new cuts over the intercom before performing select numbers like “Circa 09,” “Bang Your Line,” “Drama” and “Otherside.” Much to the crowd’s delight, he capped off the evening with an encore of the summer-leaning “Something,” an early fan favorite, and throwback treat from his All Have Fallen LP, “Needs.”
