There’s no telling when fans will get a follow up to Erykah Badu’s 2015 mixtape, But You Caint Use My Phone, but to throw in some good news while they wait, the singer and composer revealed she’s will score original music for the upcoming animated series on Comedy Central, Legends of Chamberlain Heights.
In her latest profile for The New Yorker, the “Godmother of Soul” opened up about what she has planned for the future. While she did hint at new original content of her own, she also went into detail about working on the comedy series. “I had to interview alongside all these other composers – talked all kinds of sh-t. ‘Deadlines? No problem!,'” she said of the hiring process.
“Legends of Chamberlain Heights depicts a coming of age story for three high school freshmen who experience life’s ups and downs together.” Retired UCLA Bruins basketball players, Quinn Hawking and Josiah Johnson have signed on to voice two of the main characters, with veteran Simpsons artist Brad Ableson on the illustration.
There’s no telling what Erykah has cooking for the animated series just yet, but we have a feeling it may be worth checking out. The series does not have an official premiere date, but will reportedly be hitting Comedy Central some time in the fall. You can read the rest of Erykah’s interview here.
