“I’m sorry Ms. Jackson, I am for real.”
Everyone knows the lyrics to Outkast’s classic hit “Ms. Jackson,” but the muse and inspiration behind the track haven’t spoken publically about the thick of it–until now.
In a recent interview on Rap Radar’s podcast series, Erykah Badu talked about her plans for Sunday evening’s Soul Train Awards (Nov. 28), working with D.R.A.M and of course, her thoughts on “Ms. Jackson,” the track made by her former flame Andre 3000 along with Big Boi. The platinum single was all about Badu’s mom, in which Three Stacks is rapping about and was apologizing to her mother.
Badu explained the song was inspiring yet hurtful to listen to as it brought back feelings of nostalgia. She said hearing Andre 3000’s verses on the song was great, but Big Boi’s verse hit a soft spot. “When I heard André’s verse, I felt very good because his verse was really, really inspiring,” she said. “He just told how he felt and I’ve always respected that and listened to what he felt and appreciated it.”
Her mother had a more positive reaction to the song and took pride in being “Ms. Jackson.”
