The temperature outside is dropping quickly, meaning ’tis the season for layered clothing, comfort foods and refreshing new voices to add to your iTunes queues.
Buzzing singer-songwriter Eryn Allen Kane brought her strong, jazz-influenced vocals to the forefront with her debut EP, Aviary: Act 1. The four-track project is all her, no guests, pairing brand new songs “Bass Song” and “Piano Song”—which was featured on the Being Mary Jane soundtrack—with previously released goodies like “Have Mercy” and “Slipping.”
This isn’t your first time hearing Kane’s voice, though. The Chicago songstress’ vocals held prime real estate on Surf by Donnie Trumpet and the Social Experiment, as well as joining Prince on his tribute song, “Baltimore.” Aviary is just a precursor of what’s to come from her in the future, namely a Chi-Town release show on Feb. 19 at City Winery.
Stream the project below, then if you like what you hear, support Kane by purchasing Aviary on iTunes.
