The Essence Festival is always an amazing time, and it looks like the 2017 edition will be no different. Essence Magazine recently unveiled the lineup for its 23rd annual event, which will take place in none other than New Orleans from June 29 to July 2.
Living legend Diana Ross is set to take the stage for the first time at the event, while Solange, John Legend, and India.Arie will hit the main stage to perform some likely memorable sets. Mary J. Blige will be hosting “My Path to Strength,” which is touted as a “night of girl power and soul” and will feature performances by Jazmine Sullivan and Chaka Khan.
In the Superlounges, fans will get a taste of what Lalah Hathaway, Michel’le, Ro James, Teyana Taylor, Mose Sumney, June’s Diary and Tweet have to offer, while Doug E. Fresh is also slated to appear.
“This year’s Festival lineup puts women at the forefront of an incredible weekend of entertainment featuring more than 40 of the world’s most gifted artists and performers,” Michelle Ebanks, Essence President, says of this year’s festivities. “It is an honor to welcome the inimitable Diana Ross to the Festival for the first time. Plus, Festival veteran Mary J. Blige is back to share ‘Strength of a Woman’ with her most passionate fans.”
