Kendrick Lamar will return to the Essence Music Festival at the Mercedez Benz Superdome in New Orleans, which takes place this year from June 30 to July 3. He was the first rapper in the festival’s 22-year history to close out the weekend when he performed there for the first time last year. He, along with Mariah Carey, Ciara, Maxwell, BJ The Chicago Kid and Kelly Price will be among the many performers across the festival’s five stages, Billboard reports.
“The ESSENCE Festival is back in New Orleans with an extraordinary roster of the biggest names and best performers in entertainment—from global music icons to the industry’s rising stars,” said Essence President Michelle Ebanks in a statement. Some of the confirmed acts include Babyface, Estelle, Faith Evans, Jidenna, Lady Leshurr, Lalah Hathaway, Little Simz, New Edition, Tyrese, Jeremih, Leon Bridges, The Internet, Dej Loaf, Lion Babe and Think. Be on the lookout for some throwback artists such as Doug E. Fresh, New Edition, Charlie Wilson and MC Lyte.
