VIBE has already hijacked private cell phone photos from Dutch DJ-brother-duo, Showtek. It was only natural to delve a bit deeper with some personal questions for Sjoerd and Wouter Janssen (a.k.a. Walt Jenssen and Duro). The result? Showtek has provided VIBE with their essential playlist (a track for every occasion from late-night to chill-out) as well as some juicy details about big sounds, brains and girth. Yes, you heard that right.
VIBE: Being that you’re brothers, admit: Who has the brains and who has the smarts?
Showtek: You’d better ask who has the biggest brain and who has the biggest penis (that’s what NERVO asked us a few weeks ago). Anyways, We both have our own skills, but Wouter is better on the technical side of music (creating Synths, Melodies, etc.).
What is the craziest thing that has ever happened to you whilst performing live? How’d you handle it?
In 2008, we were playing at Sensation in Amsterdam, and it was the first time our dad went to one of our shows. When we started, the whole system crashed. So the organization needed to reboot the entire system, which took almost 10 min. Everything went black for 10 minutes in front of 40,000 people! It ended up being good because they were all chanting “SHOWTEK, SHOWTEK!” That was the craziest thing while performing. We won’t start about what happens after sometimes.
If you guys weren’t producer-DJs, what would you be doing? Think you’d work together?
We would be homeless! No, Wouter would be in marketing, or comedy cause he has crazy jokes. Sjoerd loves action, so he’d be a personal trainer of Special Forces or something like that.
Who are you listening to right now that might surprise people?
We were just checking out Kanye’s latest album [Yeezus]. But we love everything – from British pop to American hip-hop to very sensitive girls songs.
