Fat Joe commemorated the 20-year anniversary of Pun’s death on Friday (Feb. 7) with an emotional message about his late Terror Squad brethren.
“20 years later we mourn you every day,” Joe captioned a photo of him and Pun. “The first time we ever met you told me I’ma be your Big brother. I hope I’ve done well. Till [sic] the day I die I will continue to rep your legacy God bless you Twin. We miss you RIP Pun TS4LIFE.”
Pun, who struggled with his weight throughout his adult life, died from a heart attack at age 28. At the time of his death, the Bronx rapper weighed just under 700 pounds.
In his short career, Pun became the first solo Latino hip-hop artist to go platinum. His 1998 debut album, Capital Punishment, peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard Top 200. His debut single, “I’m Not a Player,” helped propel Capital Punishment to the top of the hip-hop/R&B charts. He followed up the single’s success with the remix, “Still Not a Player,” featuring Joe.
