Miguel wants you to feel the love in the backseat of his Cadillac, or at least through your headphones. “Cadillac,” the singer’s latest piece of ear candy, is featured on the soundtrack to the upcoming Netflix series, The Get Down.
Premiering on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 radio show on Thursday (August 4,) the glittery track provides the right setting for a few dance moves and a lot of fun. As Genius points out, the song samples British soul/funk band Hot Chocolate’s 1976 single, “Heaven Is In The Back Seat Of My Cadillac.” Embodying pure disco elements like horns, electric guitar riffs and tantalizing lyrics like, “That magical organic/That rocking baby don’t panic,” the singer is more than comfortable in the groovy era.
Directed Baz Luhrmann, The Get Down highlights six friends in New York City during the birth of hip-hop culture in the Bronx. The show doesn’t step far from its roots with legends like Grandmaster Flash, Kurtis Blow, Kool Herc and the Furious Five’s Rahiem contributing to the series.
The soundtrack will also feature music from Nas, who executively produced the series. The show features Jaden Smith, Dope breakout star Shameik Moore, Giancarlo Esposito and Jimmy Smits.
Six episodes of The Get Down, along with the soundtrack will drop August 12.
