Run DMC and Aerosmith, Jay-Z and Lincoln Park, Kendrick Lamar and Imagine Dragons: we’ve all witnessed the alchemy of rap and rock collaborations. Something like the perfect potion, the amount of entertainment that derives from the adrenaline on stage feeds the crowd. The expectation for this year’s MTV Movie Awards performances is no different.
Fetty Wap, the ubiquitous “Trap Queen” rapper, is set to pair up with Fall Out Boy this Sunday (April 12)– reportedly to be his first national TV appearance. The New Jersey native has gained quite the following off of his gold hit, but has no major performances under his designer belt. With co-signs from Kanye West and Rihanna, Fetty has made his stamp on contemporary hip-hop music. The expectations for this show can only ride the wave of the energy he has created for him. Like prior hip-hop/rock collaborations the dichotomy is uncanny but undeniably magical.
Other performers for the ceremony include Ty Dolla $ign, Charli XCX, and Tinashe. Los Angeles is about to be blessed with quite the performance this Sunday, and if it’s like any of the previous mash-ups, it might even make history. — Olivia Jade Khoury
