On Thursday night (April 9), Kendrick Lamar sat down with Flying Lotus for an interview as part of BBC 1’s Residency series.
Frequent collaborators K. Dot and FlyLo (who produced the opener “Wesley’s Theory” on Kendrick’s recent album, To Pimp A Butterfly) go deep into conversation, discussing dreams and Kendrick’s TPAB album, which Flying Lotus called a “future classic.”
“A lot of artists get to a point where we like to stay redundant, we like to stay compromising what we really want to do,” Kendrick said. “And I said I wasn’t going to do that on this album. I give that advise to any artist out there: Do what your heart tells you to do, because the rewards is even that much more better.”
Sir Lamar even dropped another gem for those tuning in. “I encourage you, the listener, to always put your heart over a number or a dollar sign,” he said.
