Fifteen year old Brooklyn rapper Astro didn’t win on the ‘X-Factor,’ but he is still pushing forward with his music career. MTV.com has revealed that the teen emcee has signed a deal with X-Factor judge L.A. Reid and Epic Records.
Astro, who gained much noteriety after competing on the music competition show, was rumored to be in talks with a few labels, including Jay-Z’s Roc Nation. However, he shot those claims down saying he wasn’t signed to anyone at the moment.
Astro also spoke with MTV about what his ideal label situation would be and elaborated on what his musical vision is.
“I just want to be in a place where I’m comfortable 100 percent. I just want to be able to release my music, do my movies, [and] everything is fair,” he said to MTV. “I just want to be able to have fun doing it. I don’t want music to be a job for me; I want it to be something I’m doing for fun. As long it’s not a job, then you’re straight.”
Astro will be making an appearance on RapFix Live today to speak more in detail about connecting with Reid and his new record deal. Check out one of Astro’s performances from ‘X-Factor’ below.
