The killing of Coke Boys rapper Chinx rocked the hip-hop world on Sunday (May 17). The 31-year-old rising star was gunned down in Briarwood, Queens at approximately 4 a.m. when an unidentified assailant opened fire on his vehicle. After multiple artists and friends offered their condolences and messages of grief, his fellow Coke Boys cohort French Montana took to Instagram to express the sadness of his loss.
Posting a clip of Jay Z’s acknowledgement of Chinx at his B-Sides concert, French referred to the murder as one motivated by jealousy. He also offered prayers for Chinx’s family and children:
The devil comes in all shapes and sizes and he’s ruthless. Life here is temporary. They will kill you for this lifestyle, if they can’t afford it jealousy is a motherfucker Protect yourself, protect the people you love. I’m sad to see my brother go out like this, one of the realest people I met. This shit’s not right. These streets don’t love us My prayers go to his kids and family. We going to finish off what we started #ripchinx#ripstacks #freemaxb s/o to #jayz
