Since French Montana shot the video for “Unforgettable” in Uganda, the Mac & Cheese rapper has been whipping up charitable efforts in his home continent of Africa. Recently, he announced the backing of Uganda’s Suubi Center, which helps mothers with maternity needs and children with medical assistance.
To increase his philanthropy, Montana shared with CNN that the proceeds of his recent “Famous” remix featuring Adam Levine will be donated to the center. The Bronx-bred artist said he’s raised $500,000 since the announcement.
“Me coming from Morocco in North Africa, I feel like it should be a soft spot for anyone that has a mother or a child,” Montana said. “I think that’s got to be one of the worst things, not having the right healthcare. When I went to Uganda I felt obligated to [help]. I feel like every woman and child deserves the right healthcare. It shouldn’t be a privilege it should be a right.”
To accompany his “Unforgettable” 2017 single, Montana enlisted the cameos of Uganda’s Triplets Ghetto Kids. The dancing ensemble had a life-changing impact on the “Off the Rip” artist, inspiring him to establish a healthcare platform with Global Citizen.
“My life changed forever after my trip to Uganda and I am excited to continue engaging my fans to use their voices to advocate for universal health coverage and education for those living in extreme poverty,” the Morocco-born entertainer previously said.
