While the origins of trap music have been debated time and time again, Future is opening a new conversation surrounding the sub-genre. In a new interview on Big Boy’s Neighborhood on Wednesday (Jan. 9), Future declared who the current G.O.A.T. of trap music is, and his answer might surprise you.
According to Future, rookies Lil Baby and Gunna are the G.O.A.T.’s of trap. “I’ll give it to Lil Baby and Gunna,” Future responded to a question about the subject.
Some fans might have given that title to Future, but the “Mask Off” artist suggested he’s already been there and done that. “I already did what I did. I’m solidified. I’ve been the trap GOAT,” he explained. “They are right now. They them dudes.”
While it may be premature to dub them the G.O.A.T.’s of anything, Lil Baby and Gunna have definitely been making a name for themselves. Lil Baby’s singles including “Freestyle,” “Yes Indeed,” and “Drip Too Hard” have all landed in the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. His debut studio album, Harder Than Ever also debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200. Likewise, Gunna’s mixtape Drip Harder made a splash at No. 4 on the Billboard charts, along with a number of singles including “Drip Too Hard.”
