Future – aka Metro Boomin’s pick for current reigning champ of mixtapes – recently broke down his mixtape catalogue for Mass Appeal. Serving as the magazine’s latest cover star, the DS2 rapper gave quick anecdotes about each project, but his commentary on one in particular has created chatter amongst the masses. When asked about his latest mixtape release/collaborative project with Drake What A Time To Be Alive, Fewtch offered a very cryptic reply.
“It never happened, you know what I’m saying,” he said, “It never happened.”
Obviously no one knows exactly what to make of Future’s statement, but we are all pretty sure What A Time To Be Alive did in fact happen. The colossal double-team placed Future and Drake atop the Billboard 100 charts, and moved a whopping 500,000 copies in its first week. As for whether or not the comment was a signifier for troubled waters between the two rappers, it would be hard to tell based on Drake’s recent birthday wishes to Future.
“Happy birthday brother! More life!” Drizzy wrote on Instagram on Friday (Nov. 20).
So Future had to be joking, right? Watch his full Mass Appeal mixtape commentary below:
