On an episode of The Smokebox from Hip-Hop icon and one third of the legendary Cypress Hill, B-Real’s YouTube channel B-Real TV, he caught up with G-Herbo as the two had a great conversation over some good marijuana.
On the tail end of the interview, G-Herbo fka Lil Herb went on to discuss how the once splintered Chicago scene is now coming together as artists such as himself, Lil Bibby, Tink, Dreezy, Famous Dex, and many others are all collaborating and rising to national prominence. And then, he let loose the bombshell that him and Bump J have been talking big business lately.
“I’ve been talking to Bump J lately,” said Herbo. “He’s been calling me like crazy now. It’s about to go down in Chicago. He been wanting fuck with me and a lot of other artists so he’s ready to connect and get out and work.”
For those who might not be up on game, one of Chicago’s most promising rap artists of the mid 2000s, Bump J has finally been released from prison after a serving a six and a half year bid. He was a part of the same class of Chicago artists among the likes of Lupe Fiasco, Rhymefest, and Kayne West whom he collaborated on his smash single, “Move Around.” He was arrested for his part in a bank robbery in 2007 and was originally sentenced to 10 years.
Considering how much the scene has changed since in the last decade, it is exciting to see him collaborate with rappers like Bibby, Herbo, King Louie, King Yella, Tink, Lil Durk, or even Chief Keef. Let’s hope some great music comes out of this.
