Drum and bass kingpin Clifford Price – better known as Goldie – met up with VIBE at a celebratory bass-fueled boat party in Croatia during Outlook Festival. At the helm of his 20-years-running label, Metalheadz, Goldie opens up about the label’s legacy, what it means to both him and the many talented spinners putting forth crisp jungle albums and tracks.
“It’s the way we are with graffiti,” says Goldie, who doubles as a prolific visual artist. “We’ve been here a long time, laying it down first.” In addition to unleashing monster beats for the past two decades, Price is gearing up to go beyond the aural with a new painting expedition. “I’ve got the Lost Tribes show coming up, which includes 20 new pieces of work,” Goldie adds. In addition, look out for a new studio album from Goldie, which he says already features, “some jazz players on it.”
Also on deck – and later on the decks – was Metalheadz member Jubei, who spun and partied to celebrate the release of his album, To Have & Have Not. More beatsmith friends and label mates, Lenzman and DJ/production duo, Ulterior Motive, spun to the packed cruiser. All of whom are going to assuredly have a big bassy year ahead. Happy 20th, Metalheadz!
