GoldLink and Miguel dropped the official music video for “Got Friends” on Wednesday (Sept. 26). Directed by Christopher Sutton, the visual has been billed as a “short film,” with the song only working to soundtrack the video.
Tapping Miguel for the hook, the video doesn’t feature GoldLink at all. (Viewers only catch a quick glimpse of the DMV come-up on a fleeting “Missing” poster.) The cinematic video takes an supernatural turn when Miguel, his friends and their lady interests leave a crowded late-night diner for a supposed night out.
Posting a sneak peak on Instagram, director Christopher Sutton shared his inspiration for the video. “I wanted to do something different than a music video with this project by blending different cinematic styles and a surreal narrative to introduce a story that @goldlink is going to tell,” he wrote. “You definitely have to think out of the box to appreciate this one and that’s where I want to be as a director – so fwm!”
GoldLink also posted on his IG, sharing a few behind-the-scenes clips. Even if he didn’t make a cameo in the video, he was definitely there to overlook the whole thing.
The track, which was released early this summer, follows GoldLink’s debut studio LP At What Cost, which saw widespread success in 2017. Most recently, GoldLink dropped an EDM-inspired song “Loud” with Silk City and Desiigner. Check out the video up top.
