Looks like Mother Nature wasn’t in the mood. Fans who purchased tickets for Sunday’s (June 5) New York’s 5th annual Governor’s Ball performances unfortunately won’t be seeing headliner Kanye West, or Joey Basa$$, Vince Staples and Vic Mensa perform due to the weather.
With a 90% chance of showers expected throughout the day, Governor’s Ball officials canceled the day’s set for the safety of the fans and crew, despite the immense number of SMH’s they inevitably received.
Check out the statement provided below.
“Sunday, June 5th of Gov Ball 2016 has officially been cancelled, due to severe weather and a high likelihood of lightning in the area. The safety of fans, artists and crew always comes first. All customers who purchased a Sunday ticket and Sunday transportation ticket through the Gov Ball ticketing page will receive a refund (including fees and shipping, if applicable) directly to the account used to purchase. All customers who purchased a 3-Day Pass and 3-Day Transportation pass directly through the Gov Ball Ticketing page will receive a partial/pro-rated refund (including fees and shipping, if applicable) directly to the account used to purchase.Visit http://governorsballmusicfestival.com/updates/ for more information including additional refund information.”
Governor’s Ball isn’t the only concert taking precautions. Summer Jam coordinators also released a statement about today’s Festival Village performance, which featured Chance The Rapper, Dave East, Justine Skye, Rotimi and more, and unfortunately concluded those performances would also be canceled. However, the Main Stadium Stage is still a go.
“HOT 97 and MetLife Stadium’s top priority is the safety of our concert goers, performers and staff. Hot 97 Summer Jam is still on for tonight; however, the Festival Village, scheduled for 3pm – 5:30pm in Lot G, outside the MetLife Stadium gates, has been officially cancelled due to the threat of severe weather. Stadium Gates will now open at 8:30pm for the concert on the Main Stadium Stage.”
Further delays are possible, but at this time, the concert is rain or shine.
