Gucci Mane is gearing up for the release of his first major label album, The State Vs. Radric Davis, due in stores in December 8.
The album follows a slew of independent releases, mixtapes and features over the past few years, which have upped his stock and landed him at No. 6 on MTV’s “Hottest MCs in the Game” list this year.
Gucci Mane first shot onto the scene in 2005 with his smash single, “Icy” featuring Young Jeezy, off his debut album, Trap House. Disputes over the song’s rights resulted in a well-publicized and deadly beef between the two artists and would be the source of legal headaches for years to come. His follow-up album, Back to the Traphouse, spawned the hit “Freaky Gurl,” which peaked at No. 12 on the Billboard Hot Rap Tracks.
With his first single “Wasted” as well as guest spots on tracks like Mario‘s “Break Up” and Mariah Carey‘s “Obsessed (Remix),” the Atlanta native has landed on four Top 20 singles this year. That along with more than 150 songs on over 40 different mixtapes and albums is proof enough that he has definitely been on his grind.
While Gucci continues to release mixtapes, including his latest The Cold War series, the new album will contain all new, never-before-heard music, both mainstream and for the street, he promises, like his next single “Spotlight” featuring Usher.
