There’s something special about H.E.R.
Music’s fascination with the mystifying R&B talent has been bubbling over for a while now, but 2018 has been a notable year for the “Focus” singer who scored a summer love anthem in the Daniel Caesar-assisted “Best Part.”
Amid a perpetual content flood of music and visuals from Drake, Travis $cott, and Mac Miller to name a few, the 21-year-old R&B talent lands on Friday’s (Aug. 3) list of anticipated new releases with I Used to Know Her: The Prelude.
The six-track EP, described as “something special” before H.E.R. drops her debut album, is a standout in its own right, even if it earns the Vallejo, Calif. native more comparisons to Lauryn Hill. On “Lost Soul” the project’s opening cut, H.E.R. naturally channels the former Fugees front woman’s vibe as she flows over a ‘90s-style instrumental. H.E.R. serves up a beautiful vocal interlude on “Be On My,” and pulls at your emotions with “Against Me,” “Feel A Way,” “As I Am,” and “Could’ve Been,” featuring Bryson Tiller.
