The story of hip-hop and its humble beginnings has been told over and over again; however, it’s never been done in such an in-depth and innovative way. The first luxury book on the artistic lifestyle, Hip-Hop: A Cultural Odyssey, will be made available on February 8 by ARIA Multimedia Entertainment.
The creatively crafted book tells Hip-Hop’s story that spans over the last 40 years. Brimming with unseen photos and archival interviews with the leaders and originators of hip-hop, the 420-page text wrapped in black leather allows readers to experience the full story of the spark that began in the Bronx.
“This book, Hip Hop: A Cultural Odyssey offers an extensive and in-depth look at the culture which changed the world and will become an important asset to American history,” mogul Russell Simmons says.
President of ARIA and Editor-In-Chief Jordan Sommers also shares his ties with the music, “Growing up during the rise of Hip-Hop Culture had a profound effect on me. It became my mission to create an unprecedented tome highlighting its tremendous impact and influence on the world.”
Contributors come from the most respected music and entertainment publications and websites and detail the birth, evolution and global impact of the culture. Top hip-hop icons from yesteryear and today such as Jay-Z, Afrika Bambaataa, Kanye West, Eminem, Run-DMC, Diddy, Will Smith and more are profiled because of how they’ve shaped culture and influenced the world in several different ways.
“We are thrilled to be releasing such a monumental collection chronicling the journey of Hip-Hop Culture in America and throughout the world,” says Jeff Wald, CEO of ARIA.
Preconceived notions of and adoration for hip-hop will draw you to this large-format book. The first of its kind, this book will be featured in a full, interactive exhibit that debuts this week at the Grammy Museum.
