J. Cole is back with some new music. In true Cole fashion, the rapper surprised fans with a new freestyle, entitled “Album of the Year” on Aug. 7.
The track is a freestyle over Nas and the Bravehearts’ track “Oochie Wally.” “The Off Season coming soon… all roads lead to The Fall Off,” Cole said in a statement that was released along with the video for the new track.
The new freestyle comes nearly four months after J. Cole dropped his latest studio album KOD in Apr. 2018. The album broke several streaming records, including garnering 64.5 million plays on Apple Music in its first-day release, which surprassed Drake’s previous record of 36.6 million plays with 2016’s VIEWS.
“Album of the Year” also follows J. Cole’s recent call for new beats. “Feed me beats. Everything gettin murdered,” he posted on Twitter on Aug. 6. The tweet has already attracted more than 25,000 retweets and more than 250,000 likes on the social media platform.
“Album of the Year” is also streaming on Tidal. Listen to the new track in the audio video above.
