Nearly eight years after graduating Summa cum laude from St John’s University, J. Cole finally has the document to prove it. A full-circle moment for the rapper (who just earned his first platinum album) was made complete during his homecoming concert at his alma mater on Thursday (Apr. 9) with the presentation of his diploma by a former professor.
Though he chucked the deuce to his collegiate career with a 3.82 GPA, a library book kept Cole from being able to fully commemorate his accomplishment.
“I owed money for a library book that I didn’t turn in,” he told The Village Voice. http://blogs.villagevoice.com/music/2015/04/j_cole_live_diploma_st_johns.php “If you have any outstanding fee, that translates to money. There’s a price associated with it. I never paid. That’s why I don’t have my degree.”
As for his plans for the diploma, Cole plans on letting a special person relish the moment.
“Tonight, I guess they let me slide,” he said. “I’m gonna send it to my Mom.”
