Ja Rule has pleaded guilty to attempted criminal possession of a weapon today in New York City.
The Queens rapper, born Jeffrey Atkins, was stopped in July 2007 for speeding in his luxury sports car. Police say they found a semi-automatic gun in the car.
According to the Associated Press, Ja wore dark-blue jeans and a black sweater as he said “guilty” in a low voice. Manhattan state Supreme Court Justice Richard Carruthers promised the rapper a two-year prison sentence.
“Because of your guilty plea here today, you’ll have a record of having committed a violent felony,” Carruthers said. “This is a very serious matter.”
