Janelle Monae and Jidenna recently made a pit stop on Hot 97’s Ebro in The Moring. The two discussed the “Classic Man” recent controversy for allegedly sampling Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy,” on his gold hit, “Classic Man.” Apparently, Iggy confirmed on Twitter that she receives a percentage of the song’s profits:
@SpaceJamIggy thats true, i get a % of it.
— IGGY AZALEA (@IGGYAZALEA) July 11, 2015
@QuintaleAzalea sample. — IGGY AZALEA (@IGGYAZALEA) July 13, 2015
Amid these claims, Jidenna decided to clear the air on the radio show in efforts to denounce any inaccurate accusations. He said they did not sample “Fancy,” and that: “Ever since the decision of Robin Thicke and Pharrell, we believe that it was important to make sure that we are safe,” he continued. “When that Robin Thicke verdict came out, we realized the game had changed in music. I’m glad we were safe.”
Janelle Monae also added a clever two cents on the subject: “She steals from us, we steal back.”
Even without Iggy’s fancy, Jidenna is still classy, right? Take a look at the full interview below.
