After rocking last night’s secret Eephus Tour show, Janelle Monáe and her Wondaland crew woke New York City up bright and early on Friday morning (Aug. 14) with an electrifying performance on The TODAY Show.
Known for her unique style and sound, The Electric Lady said she’s in a constant state of evolution. “I love evolving,” she said. “I’m not one thing and I will never be one thing to any one person.
She soulfully worked the stage at 30 Rock in a black and white futuristic jumpsuit. With her signature cape, Monáe’s moves emulated James Brown as her pelvic thrusts to “Tightrope” pumped the crowd.

Wondaland signees Jidenna and Roman GianArthur also appeared for a dapper performance of “Classic Man,” where the Wondaland General wore a clean, white three-piece suit as GianArthur donned a a broad black hat. Jidenna later joined Monae’s second act for the musical workout smash “Yoga.”
Monáe and Wondaland use their futuristic music to empower the community. They recently protested police brutality in Times Square and Philadephia while on tour. “We have a duty as as people, as leaders in any neighborhood. We felt the need to get out there on the street and not just the stage,” Jidenna said.
Monáe, Jidenna and Wondaland’s Deep Cotton also stopped by Power 105’s The Breakfast Club on their press run to discuss their innovative tracks, activism and free Eephus Tour.
