Former Fresh Prince of Bel Air actress, Janet Hubert had a few words for Jada Pinkett-Smith after she called for a boycott of the Oscars following their controversial nominations list. Now, Hubert is aiming her comments at another actress for her thoughts on diversity.
Stacey Dash made headlines yet again for her controversial views, primarily when she said society should do away with BET and Black History Month. “If we don’t want segregation, then we need to get rid of channels like BET and the BET Awards, and the [NAACP] Image Awards, where you’re only awarded if you’re black,” she said. “If it were the other way around, we would be up in arms. It’s a double standard […] Just like there shouldn’t be a Black History Month. We’re American, that’s it.”
Dash received backlash from mostly everyone who came into contact with her comments, including BET’s viral response. Hubert later shared her opinion on the matter during an interview with The Huffington Post on Friday (Jan. 29). “Somebody needs to slap the little bit of black she got on her off of her, okay?” she said. “Because girlfriend has worked on BET more than most actresses have. I think she’s just saying this kind of bull because she wants sensationalism.”
Hubert later labeled Dash as “a bit of a media ho” for her constant stints on a certain news station. “She’s working for Fox, and she needs a job, and she’s making a check, and she’s bringing controversy to herself.” Hubert also spoke on Dash’s statements of doing away with BET, stating if we didn’t have those types of networks and award shows that celebrate African-American culture, “we’d have nothing. We’d have nothing to honor those wonderful performances…And as far as Black History Month is concerned, I don’t even need to touch that because it’s so stupid.”
