Decatur, GA’s Jarren Benton is overlooked as an emcee. While the averag fan may fall for the bass sounds of the trapped-out music that’s coming out of the ATL right now, this kid has more to offer. With this, Benton had label issues earlier this year, which resulted in him leaving Funk Volume.
Shortly after, word on the street was that Benton was linking with Master P and No Limit. However, no music followed. Not the one to be deterred, Benton continues to put in long studio hours. And he recently rolled out a new video and song titled “Scared,” featuring OnCue and Big Rube.
In the Slash-directed visuals, Benton stands before a dark room as he lays bare many of his fears such as love, fame, dieing alone, causing psychological harm to his kids, among other issues. With OnCue on the hook, ATL O.G., Big Rube comes through with some spoken word for the soul.
Benton’s latest albums were 2013’s My Momma’s Basement, and 2015’s Slow Motion Volume One EP. With this gripping and emotional track, it looks like Benton has a trick up his sleeve.
