Meek Mill dropped his latest album CHAMPIONSHIPS on Friday (Nov. 30), and it’s already creating a lot of buzz on the Internet. The Philly native’s song with Jay-Z and Rick Ross, in particular, is causing quite the discussion. On the track entitled “What’s Free,” Hov appears to call out Kanye West for his exhausting antics throughout the year.
Jay’s verse references Ye’s recent political shenanigans, including wearing a MAGA hat and supporting Donald Trump.
“No red hat, don’t Michael and Prince me and Ye/They separate you when you got Michael and Prince’s DNA/I ain’t one of these house ni**as you bought/My house like a resort, my house bigger than yours/My spo—c’mon, man—my route better of course,” Jay-Z spits.
As you may know, the last couple of years have been rocky for Jay and Kanye’s friendship. Hov has spoken out in numerous interviews about Kanye’s behavior, some of which has involved Jay’s family.
Meek Mill has also discussed Kanye’s antics in the recent months. In a new interview with Vulture, Meek said that he tried to persuade Kanye not to meet with Trump in Oct. 2018. “I don’t think [Kanye] addressed anything that had to do with what was tough on justice reform. He wasn’t prepared for it, and he shouldn’t have done it,” Meek said. “I had phone calls with Kanye for hours. He was trying to get me to go to things like that.”
Meek Mill’s CHAMPIONSHIPS is available on all streaming platforms. Listen to “What’s Free” above.
