Last night, “The Great Gatsby” had it’s official New York City premiere at the Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. Gatsby stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan, and Toby Maguire were all in attendance. As the soundtrack’s executive producer, Jay-Z, recently spoke to Black Tree TV on how he got involved with the project.
Hov credits a studio session for “Watch The Throne” as the catalyst for his involvement. Dicaprio just happened to stop by and the idea was born.
“It’s not a typical soundtrack, it’s just a stand alone piece. Songs are pretty much in the film, it goes hand-in-hand with each other. It had to fit pretty snug, it wasn’t an after thought,” says Jay-Z. “It just really goes to the thing that I’ve always said that music is music no matter what, timeless music is timeless music and it doesn’t matter which genre. So we did a lot of jumping over those lines that people put there.”
