It was announced Wednesday that the Brooklyn boy Shawn Corey Carter would become the first rapper inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame, which is kind of a big f**king deal. This latest class also includes the iconic musical duo Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, Max Martin and Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds.
While the honor is no small feet, the Tidal streaming co-owner in a surprising move took to Twitter Wednesday night (Feb. 22) to express his appreciation, but also share the moment with the culture.
By the way, this is a win for US. I remember when rap was said to be a fad . We are now alongside some of the greatest writers in history.

Mr. Carter has had few impressive months so far. After it was announced Sprint would own 33% in the artist-owned streaming service, it was then reported Jay Z and Roc Nation president Jay Brown would be searching for a third partner to launch their venture capital fund, which looks to invest in tech start ups, and not to mention he’ll be a dad twice over as he and Beyonce await the birth of their twins.
Congrats to Jay!
