JLO and the dancer started dating back in 2011, shortly after she parted ways from ex-husband, Marc Anthony. This comes as no surprise as she said earlier this year that she wasn’t banking on marriage while with Smart.
“In the past, love for me has always meant forever, and sure, you still nurse some of those fantasies, but I don’t try to force it anymore,” she said. “I hung on to my fairytale ideals for a long time. But where I am now, what I’ve been through, there are no rules. There are just lots of ways it can turn out.”
News of their break-up comes after Smart was allegedly exchanging texts with a transexual model. However, JLO’s rep tells Us Weekly that the rumors were “not true” and that Smart wanted to venture out on his own.
“He is trying really hard to launch his acting career,” the source said. “He doesn’t want to be known as just her boyfriend.”
Another insider adds that the split was amicable. “She’s a strong woman, so she’s doing fine,” a Lopez source previously told Us. “They are both in a good place now.”
JLO hasn’t let her new single status get in the way of work. She recently held a star-studded concert in her native Bronx last week, which included guests French Montana, Ja Rule and Fat Joe. Her tenth studio effort A.K.A. is due June 17.
