Backed by her guitar player and her fully-stocked library, singer-songwriter Jhene Aiko paid tribute to one music’s greatest talents: Bill Withers.
The Souled Out artist, donning waist-length braids and a loose fitting tunic, covered Withers’ famous songs “Ain’t No Sunshine” and “Lovely Day” as a musical tribute for his 77th birthday. Aiko showcased her vocal dexterity as the notes playfully escaped her mouth throughout the many runs she demonstrated during her performance.

“I’m getting older and I realize that I am just a compilation of all the great creators who came before me,” Aiko told The Fader. “Not only is it my duty, but it is also my pleasure to show my appreciation.”
Aiko isn’t the first to cover Withers famous love songs, everyone from Barbra Streisand, Aretha Franklin and Maroon 5 have all created their own rendition of his signature tunes, which have also been featured on Scandal and used in Gap commercials.
