Jim Jones, the charismatic and troublesome lyricist from Harlem, stopped by ESPN’s Highly Questionable to chat about his experiences growing up in The Bronx, Harlem and life in hip-hop.
“In order to keep your money rolling and the shows coming, you have to be on top of situations,” the “Ballin” rapper said.
Sporting a red snap back and a a full beard, Jimmy talked about his grandmother’s moral influence on him. He then switched gears to discuss some of his hair-raising moments including a 30-minute brawl inside a D.C. night club and that one time he was surrounded by 40 or so members of Minister Farrakhan’s detail, known as the Fruit of Islam, due to a slick comment he heard.
“When I heard the remark (from the F.O.I) I lost my cool, and absolutely went bonkers on every F.O.I out there. Then I see uconn vans coming around with F.O.I’s holding onto the outside of the van, like the old-school mobster flicks. At that point I was a little nervous, not scared,” Jimmy said laughing.
