J.Cole’s Eyez documentary premiered two tracks that may or may not be on his new album, 4 Your Eyez Only. One of them being the much-talked about “False Prophets” that shares the same beat to Joey Badass’ 2012 release, “Waves.” Before the peanut gallery had the chance to stir the pot, the Brooklyn rapper assured fans everything was cool.
On Friday (Dec. 2), the rapper took to Twitter to inform fans Cole reached out to him for his blessing to use the Freddie Joachim-produced beat. He also cracked a few jokes at Cole and Kanye West’s expense.

Kanye seems to be the source of inspiration behind Cole’s “False Prophets.” In the video, Cole reminisces about an artist he used to admire who has fallen from grace. “When he tell us he a genius but it’s clearer lately/ It’s been hard for him to look into the mirror lately/There was a time when this n***a was my hero maybe/That’s the reason why his fall from grace is hard to take,” he spits. “’Cause I believed him when he said his shit was purer and he the type of nigga swear he real but all around is fake.”
In the documentary, Cole tells a friend how he tries to stay away from the news cycle but it’s clear Kanye’s health woes was hard to overlook. After Kanye was hospitalized last month, members of the music community like Pusha T, Drake, Chance the Rapper and John Legend publically sent well wishes to the artist.
