In an era when rap music seems to be losing its grip on reality (at times), JR Writer is here to show the new generation that he still has rhymes for days. Back in 2015, the Harlem rapper celebrated the end of his two-year bid in jail by reintroducing himself to the newbies with a fire freestyle at Hot 97. Months later, Writer made his official comeback with his heavy mixtape Meet Zeus. Now the Diplomats alumni is back again with a fiery vengeance in his upcoming project #IReallyRap.
“I look around at my competition.. I see addicts, purses, painted nails, spandex.. this is the state of rap I’m competing with,” Writer says in the official album trailer. “But I ain’t here to knock nobody hustle.. shit get ya money how you get it!.. but what I am gon do is, is give y’all what y’all want. What y’all been missing…. So On Nov. 30.. I remind y’all what grown man bars sound like. What hip hop sound like. One things for sure…this is what I was born to do.”
Earlier this week, Writer’s vendetta against the rising freshmen of hip-hop manifested after he revealed the release date for #IReallyRap and the colorful artwork for the project. His album cover shows seems to be a play on Lil Yachty’s Teenage Emotions album. The Writer’s Block lyricist sits in the middle of the movie theater while surrounded by the likes of Lil Pump, XXXTentacion, the “Cash Me Ousside” girl, Riff Raff, and Yachty himself. Unfortunately, Writer also throws Danny Brown and Chance The Rapper into the mix and might have plans to call out more rappers.
Along with the album news, Writer also delivered the visual for his new single “Lose It.” Look out for #IReallyRap dropping Nov. 30 and watch his new video below.
