Fort Knocks Entertainment’s head disc jockey Just Blaze hit up “The Producers Series” competition’s third semi-annual mashup on Saturday (Aug. 8), presented by the high-shelf liquor chain Remy Martin and hosted by Power 105.1’s Charlamagne Tha God.
The festivities took place at New York City’s Taj Lounge in front of a panel of judges and socialites eager for his guiding words on the music industry. Critiquing the aspiring producers who made it to the competition’s third round, Blaze dished on working with Jay Z, emerging in the industry alongside Pharrell, and even delivered an unreleased T.I. track for the guests.

Charlamagne chopped it up with the New Jersey native as he continued on to say what he believes makes everlasting hits as well. Just Blaze made a point to the young competitors not to ever become discouraged. Drawing on his personal experiences from earlier in his industry career, Blaze revealed that his sound had been rejected plenty of times.

The other panel judges for this event included Steve Raze of AllHipHop and DJ Jay Claxton. The five producers presented their beats in front of them for critique, and ultimately the decision on who would advance to the next round. Calvin Charles, the third producer to drop his tunes, impressed the crowd and judges as he topped the competition that will lead him into the next stage of the musical matchup. Noted rapper Consequence, rising Jamaican-bred female emcee Barbie and members of the Money & Violence crew were also in attendance.
The fourth semi-annual event will follow-up on Aug. 22 with the final round closing out the competition on Sept. 12. The winner walks away with the ultimate producer’s prize package that includes studio time at the Converse Rubber Tracks studio.
