The year has just begun and Justin Timberlake already has his hands full. This time, the 34-year-old entertainer will be working on something his new baby boy will especially enjoy as the actor is set to write and perform original music for DreamWorks Animation’s upcoming film, Trolls.
The movie, scheduled for release on Nov. 4, 2016, focuses on the interesting adventures of Princess Poppy (Anna Kendrick) and Branch, two of the iconic brightly-colored troll dolls that became significantly popular in the 1990s. Though Timberlake is responsible for the curation of the movie’s soundtrack, the Tennessee native will also voice the blue-haired Branch. The “Suit & Tie” crooner said he couldn’t be more excited to wear several hats in the movie’s production.
“I have always envisioned bringing the two worlds of film and music together for one epic event [and] couldn’t be more excited that they will collide in DreamWorks’ Trolls,” said Timberlake. “This film is very special, the music is going to be very special and I can’t wait for everyone to experience it all.”
Timberlake’s involvement with Trolls will see the singer trying to replicate the animated successes of musical heavyweights will.i.am (Rio, Rio 2) and Pharrell, whose work on Despicable Me 2 garnered the No. 1 hit “Happy” in 2014. DreamWorks’ head honchos are confident in Timberlake’s creative abilities.
“Justin is an amazingly versatile artist and producer whose unprecedented creative talents provide a unique voice and sound for our movie,” said DreamWorks Animation’s co-presidents of feature animation Bonnie Arnold and Mireille Soria. “Trolls is a comedy with fantastic music at its core and we can’t think of a more perfect artist to elevate this soundtrack to incredible heights.”
